October 2008 Archive of Sigma Xi Conversations with the Executive Director
Greetings Fellow Companions: I can not think of a better time than right now for us to work together to enhance the health of the research enterprise, foster integrity in science and engineering, and promote the public's understanding of science for the purpose of improving the human condition. Daily a pessimist can very easily find examples of decay in the research enterprise and ethical standards. We, however, as zealous companions in research, should daily see opportunities to promote and reward excellence in our scientific endeavors, to mentor and encourage cooperation among scientists in all fields. This is an opportunity for you and your colleagues to engage in "conversations" with other zealous companions and the Executive Director of Sigma Xi. The professional staff at the Sigma Xi Center provides numerous services to assist you as you work to fulfill the vision of Sigma Xi. Many of you write or call for assistance but we want to explore additional formats to connect with more of the membership. Most of our members are affiliated with a chapter and the chapter is still essential for many of our communication activities. However, almost 25% of our members are classified as "at-large" and have no home chapter. These virtual "conversations" are formatted to allow for more interactive exchanges among the members and the office of the Executive Director. The description for this new initiative is: "Conversations with the Executive Director live from the front porch of the Sigma Xi global operations center." The purpose of these virtual sessions is to take the pulse of the Sigma Xi neighborhood. Using the links below you can view the recording of the conversations.
