Since its inception in 1996, Sigma Xi's Committee on Diversity has been charged with making recommendations to the Board on issues and policy relating to the under-represented groups within the Society and within the science, mathematics and engineering community as a whole. The committee meets annually and is engaged in numerous ongoing activities including workshops and student mentoring during the Society's annual meeting. The committee awards a diversity program award to one or more chapters each year. Through the committee, Sigma Xi is acting as the institutional sponsor for the Just-Garcia-Hill Website for Minority Scientists.
