2001 Annual Meeting Workshops and Activities

Exploring Career Paths in Science and Engineering

A panel of minority and women scientists at various career stages discussed their experiences in academia, research and the work world. Brief presentations followed by a question and answer period specifically addressed the interests and concerns of all students contemplating research careers. While the panel was designed for student participants, all annual meeting participants were welcome to attend.

Environmental Justice
Moderator: Carol Daniels, University of Miami
Presenters: Fred Tyson, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Amal Abu-Shakra, North Carolina Central University Sigma Xi's Committee on Diversity organized this workshop on Environmental Justice and career opportunities in the environmental sciences for minority and under-represented scientists. Dr. Fredrick Tyson of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) spoke during the workshop.
