Grants-in-Aid of Research Online Application

Electronic Submissions must be e-mailed by October 15, 2008

Applications are accepted through this online form only.

This form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader which may be downloaded at no charge.

1. Notify two references that you are applying for a Sigma Xi Grant-in-Aid of Research and that you will need a letter of recommendation from them. You are encouraged to have your references submit their letters BEFORE you have submitted your completed application, although this is not required. Please refer each reference writer to the following URL for instructions and tips on completing their recommendation letters: http://www.sigmaxi.org/programs/giar/references.shtml

   References should be e-mail to giar@sigmaxi.org with the subject line Reference for <Applicants Name>

2. It is very important to test your computer to verify that it is set up to process the grant application by using this test form. By clicking the "Submit by E-mail" button on the form, the data should automatically be saved as an .xml file and embedded into an e-mail message. Please see below for more information.

3. Gather all of your application information before filling out the online grant application form. You will not be able to edit your application once it is submitted.

4. Complete the entire online grant application form filling in all the appropriate fields.

5. Click on the "Submit by E-mail" button. Please be patient as the form generates the .xml file. It can take more than a minute.

6. E-mail the completed form to giar@sigmaxi.org with the subject header Grant Application for <Your Name Here>

7. You will receive an e-mail confirmation once your application and letters of recommendation have been received. All application materials, including both letters of recommendation, must be received by the application deadline: October 15, 2008.

October 15 applicants will be notified about funding by the end of December. Checks are mailed as soon as possible after the notification date.

More Information on the E-mail Submission Process
If your computer has an e-mail client such as Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, your application will automatically be saved as an .xml file and embedded into an e-mail to giar@sigmaxi.org.

If you have not set up an e-mail client on your computer, you will be prompted to do so when you click the "Submit by E-mail" button on the application form.

If you use Web-based e-mail (such as .gmail, .msn, yahoo etc.) your computer may prompt you to set up an e-mail client. As you proceed through the computer prompts the .xml file will be generated and saved to an e-mail. You can then drag the .xml file to your Web-based e-mail or to your desktop and send it to giar@sigmaxi.org.

You may also get a prompt to save the .xml file to your computer. You will then manually insert the .xml file and e-mail to giar@sigmaxi.org.

It is very important to use the test form to test your computer's operation BEFORE you fill out the application.
