Sigma Xi's International Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors concerning the international affairs of the Society. It assists and advises the Committee on Qualifications and Membership and the Board of Directors on matters relating to the Society's chapters, activities, and issues of concern to chapters outside of Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.
Individual membership in Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, is meant to realize a sense of belonging with a group of colleagues sharing the purpose of promoting science. Science is a global activity and it is imperative that Sigma Xi achieves a globalization of its membership and the Society. To this end, the mission of Sigma Xi is appropriate:
"To honor scientific accomplishments, to encourage and to enhance the worldwide appreciation and support of original investigation in science and technology, and to foster worldwide a creative and dynamic interaction among science, technology, and society."
As the Society's vehicle for its increasing emphasis on globalization, the International Committee is composed of members with international scientific experience and contacts.
