Marye Anne Fox

Marye Anne Fox currently holds the M. June and J. Virgil Waggoner Regents Chair in Chemistry and is vice president for research at the University of Texas at Austin. Her prolific research record includes significant work in physical organic chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, organic and analytical electrochemistry and materials synthesis. She also is recognized locally and nationally as an outstanding, highly dedicated teacher at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and an active member of the scientific community, as exemplified by her current service on the Council of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), its Executive Committee and the Committee on Science and Education Public Policy. She also served as a member of the National Science Board from 1994-1996. During her 20-year career at the University of Texas, 27 doctoral and 15 masters students have successfully completed degrees under her mentorship. Fox's outstanding work in physical organic chemistry is recognized world-wide. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society and is a fellow of the American Academy of Arets and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Fox has received the Garvan Award from the American Chemical Society and has been named an Arthur C. Cope Scholar.
