Qualifications for Membership 

Full Membership

Chancellor Folt_croppedAn individual who has shown noteworthy achievement as an original investigator in a field of pure or applied science is eligible for election to Full Membership.This noteworthy achievement must be evidenced by one of the following:

  • Publication as the primary author (defined in the manner appropriate to the discipline) on at least two different articles published in a refereed journal

  • Patents

  • Refereed monograph

  • Books or book chapters

Associate Membership  

Hamilton College Inductees An individual who has conducted independent investigation and written a report concerning their research is eligible for election to Associate Membership. This initial research achievement can be evidenced by one of the following: 

  • Oral or poster research presentation at a scientific conference 

  • Authorship on a refereed research article 

  • Contribution to an ongoing research project 

Promotion to Full Membership

Associate Members may be promoted to Full Membership once they satisfy the Full Membership qualifications. Promotion review will follow the same procedure as the initial nomination.

Affiliate Circle Membership 

The Affiliate Circle is open to citizen scientists, all individuals who are interested in Science, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers, and anyone who supports the mission of Sigma Xi. To learn more about the Affiliate Circle, please click here

Sigma Xi Explorers

Jayalakshmi Govindan

Doctoral Student

As a doctoral student, Jayalakshmi Govindan (SX 2013) is investigating how zebrafish regenerate their fin skeletons in the hopes of one day making this type of bone regeneration possible for humans.
