FREE STEM MAGAZINES FOR SCHOOLS
Congratulations! Your school was nominated by a supporter of science education to receive a free, one-year subscription to American Scientist magazine. Most schools in our 2020 group will start a year-long subscription (six issues) with the March–April 2020 issue.
Help Keep the Magazines Free
We need your help to keep your school's magazines free! American Scientist's publisher—Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society—collects generous donations on Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, and uses those funds to cover the costs for the subscriptions that schools receive.
Please help us show donors how their gift is helping students and teachers at your school! Submit a story and pictures here or email Heather Thorstensen, manager of communications, at hthorstensen@sigmaxi.org.
Opt Out or Change the Contact Person
If you're not able to use the magazines, or if you're not the best person to receive them, please let us know. Send an email to Sigma Xi at memberinfo@sigmaxi.org and reference "Giving Tuesday magazines" in your email's subject line.
How to Use the Magazines
We hope you share the magazines with students and educators on your campus! We would love to see them in science, technology, engineering, or math classrooms or in your school's library. Teachers have used the magazines to prompt classroom discussions, made them available for reading time, or recommended articles to students who are interested in a particular topic.
Why Sigma Xi Sends the Magazines
Sigma Xi is committed to ensuring that the research community continues to be a source of knowledge, an economic driver, and a pathway to solutions for global problems. We advocate for the public understanding of science. Providing free magazines is our way of giving a source of credible STEM information to teachers and students.
How Your School Got on Our List
Your school is eligible because it is located in a state where laws or proposals have challenged the integrity of science education. Sigma Xi identified and selected your school through a public nomination process.
What is Sigma Xi?
Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society (Xi is pronounced like "xylophone") is an honor society for all types of scientists and engineers. Founded in 1886, our headquarters are based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. In addition to sending free magazines, we support high school students through an online research competition, a Student Research Conference, our Explorers opportunity, and Sigma Xi Clubs. Teachers can connect to our research community through our Affiliate Circle. We invite your school to participate in our programs.
