2025 Sigma Xi Election Results

Members of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society elected their peers to leadership roles in an online election held November 3–November 17, 2025. Sigma Xi thanks all members who voted or volunteered to run as candidates.

Beverly Karplus Hartline was elected to be Sigma Xi’s incoming president-elect. On July 1, 2026, she will begin a three-year term that will consist of one year each as president-elect, president, and immediate past-president. She is Professor Emerita at Montana Technological University, having retired in 2021 after serving as Vice Chancellor for Research and Dean of the Graduate School since 2012. With a BA in physics and chemistry and a PhD in geophysics, she has cultivated an international network of colleagues and is a recognized champion for the inclusion and advancement of women and underrepresented minorities in science and engineering.

All newly elected leaders are listed below with their Sigma Xi chapter affiliations. President, directors, and associate directors will serve three-year terms beginning July 1, 2025. Treasurer will serve a four-year term beginning July 1, 2025. Committee on Nominations representatives serve three-year terms beginning immediately.

The Board of Directors is principally responsible for managing the activities, property, and affairs of the Society in accordance with the policies established by the Assembly of Delegates. The Board of the Society simultaneously serves as the Board of the Corporation. Sigma Xi’s elected leaders are volunteers and are expected to meet the commonly held standards of professional ethics and scientific integrity. Sigma Xi seeks diverse and inclusive participation in all its elected and appointed positions. Calls for nominations for future elections will be posted at sigmaxi.org. President-elect

The president-elect designee will serve a three-year term: Sigma Xi president-elect from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027; president of Sigma Xi from July 1, 2027, to June 30, 2028; and past president from July 1, 2028, to June 30, 2029.
