Biography
Edward L. Fink has been a faculty member at the University of Notre Dame, Michigan State University, the University of Maryland, and is currently Laura H. Carnell Professor of Media and Communication at Temple University. He studies attitude change and social influence, research methods and statistics, intercultural communication, and social networks.
He has published in outlets such as Human Communication Research, Journal of Health Communication, Communication Research, Communication Monographs, Journal of Communication, Journal of Social Structure, Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, and the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology. He has served as editor of Human Communication Research, is a fellow of the International Communication Association, and is recipient of its B. Aubrey Fisher Mentorship Award. At the University of Maryland, he was chair of the Department of Communication and was acting associate dean for Graduate Studies and Research. He earned his graduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Sociology) and his undergraduate degree from Columbia University (Sociology). He was born in the Bronx.
He became a member of the University of Maryland Chapter of Sigma Xi in 1997, where he was a professor of what became the Department of Communication. He was president of the University of Maryland Chapter from 1999–2001; that chapter had enough active members to have successful annual events. In 2015, he moved to Temple University, which had an inactive Sigma Xi Chapter. Fink, along with his Temple Sigma Xi colleagues, have been working to revitalize this chapter, which is not an easy task but to which they are committed. They have had campus-wide lectures and they will be continuing to restore the chapter to its former achievements.
