Frank Abrams was an active member of the faculty at North Carolina State University (NCSU) for 34 years, with faculty appointments in biological and agricultural engineering, clinical sciences (in veterinary medicine), and biomedical engineering. He retired in 2006.
He was instrumental in forming the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering of NCSU and the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in 2002-2003, and he served for nine years as NCSU's senior vice provost for academic affairs (1994-2003).
Frank's research and teaching addressed agricultural machinery design, occupational safety, bio-mechanics and modeling, and biomedical device design. After long periods of activity with the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, the American Society for Engineering Education, the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineering, he remains a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.
He currently serves as a technical consultant and scientific adviser for the
intellectual property law firm of Coats & Bennett in Cary, North
Carolina, and as a member of the Board of Health of Chatham County,
North Carolina.
Dr. Abrams received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from NCSU.
