Statement
I am currently serving as Professor of Chemistry, Associate Department Head, and PI & Co-Executive Director of Minority Achievement, Creativity, and High-Ability Center (MACH-III). Since I joined PVAMU as tenure track assistant professor in 2004, my passion toward the teaching and mentoring undergraduate student research is evident by students’ reviews and four times “outstanding teaching awards” at College of Arts and Sciences and one of the finalists of PVAMU “President’s Teaching Award” at PVAMU.
I have been a major advocator of undergraduate research for the last 15 years at PVAMU. To fulfill that passion, I actively sourght and managed more than $12 million in grants, projects, and funding from the US National Science Foundation, US Department of Energy, US Department of Education, and US Air Force Research Laboratory. I published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles with students and more than 80 research posters and presentations at local, regional and national scientific conferences. I also established collaborations with Indiana University, Iowa State University, Tennessee State University, Texas Tech University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A&M University (College Station), the University of Mississippi, Louisiana State University, Central Michigan University, InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. Under my mentorship, students were admitted into advanced degree programs at Texas A&M University, the University of Oregon, the University of Michigan, the University of Mississippi, the University of Tennessee, and PVAMU. Some worked in corporations such as Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Fort Worth, TX, Boeing Inc., SC, QC Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, 3M Co., Hewlett Packard in Corvallis, OR, AIG in Fort Worth, TX BASF Chemical Company and Northrop Grumman Corporation, Melbourne, FL.
In the Associate Director of the Comprehensive Colleges & Universities Constituency Group of Sigma Xi, I would like to learn and expand my current network and seek means to assist and help our students and the community better.
