Statement
As Associate Director of the Northwest Region, I would support and work for a focus on local meetings; including support for joint regional meetings with various disciplinary societies that also hold regional meetings. The goal would be to raise the visibility of Sigma Xi to younger scientists and highlight the value of an interdisciplinary honor society. I believe that the Society can continue to contribute to the development of a skilled and diverse STEM workforce. Leadership should remain committed to maintaining a ground up, grass roots approach to involving students and researchers that increase the scientific research and networking across disciplines. Activities at the local/chapter level, such as citizen science projects and STEM science coaches at local schools, will not only support pathways to STEM careers, but support science societies values of sharing and service. Leadership should be committed to maintaining and improving communications with chapters and between chapters.
