Because of advances in technology, data can be collected and aggregated at an ever-increasing pace, but the resulting data load can be too large to handle by standard methods.

The Sigma Xi 2018 Annual Meeting will explore big data—the concept of too much data to handle in a traditional way—and how it will affect the future of research. We will address the challenges, opportunities, and ethics of big data and how researchers can work with machines to pinpoint the most important pieces.
