American Scientist July August 2018 CoverRESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC—Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society is asking the public for help in identifying approximately 650 high schools to receive a one-year subscription to its magazine, American Scientist. The magazine contains articles about science, engineering, technology, and mathematics and is written by researchers.

The honor society for scientists and engineers raised more than $14,000 on Giving Tuesday, November 27. The money will send subscriptions free of charge to high schools in 22 states that have faced so-called academic freedom laws or proposals

The proposals range from teaching alternate views of scientific concepts—such as evolution and climate change—to allowing residents to oppose science textbooks. American Scientist will give teachers a supplemental source of evidence-based information in their classrooms.

Interested teachers, administrators, parents, or residents should fill out the form at surveymonkey.com/r/americanscientist by December 14 to request subscriptions for schools. The Society plans to send the first magazines in the coming weeks. More details about this project may be found at sigmaxi.org/subscriptions.
