Sigma Xi Establishes a Committee on Scientific Conduct and Professional Ethics

August 28, 2019

The Sigma Xi Board of Directors has approved the establishment of the Society’s Committee on Scientific Conduct and Professional Ethics. The committee will help determine the most effective ways to promote ethical scientific practices among Sigma Xi members and within the broader research enterprise.

The committee is also charged with establishing policies and procedures for reporting and making formal judgement about acts of scientific misconduct and violations of professional ethics by members, affiliates, and awardees of the Society, in order to determine the proper course of action related to membership, recognition, and participation in Sigma Xi events.

The chair of the committee will be elected by the Board of Directors. Members who are interested in volunteering to serve on the committee should contact executiveoffice@sigmaxi.org. Preference will be given to committee members who are active in the Society. The Executive Office is particularly seeking individuals with legal expertise or experience dealing with professional ethics issues to volunteer for this committee.
