Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society has awarded $117,066 to 184 undergraduate and graduate students for their research. The money comes from the latest cycle of the Society's Grants-in-Aid of Research program. A portion of the grants were supported by funds from the National Academy of Sciences.

The Society has awarded grants for student research since 1922. Application deadlines are March 15 and October 15 annually. In the latest cycle, Sigma Xi received 1,115 applications. Sigma Xi members who serve on the Society's Grants-in-Aid of Research Committee read the applications and chose the recipients.

Students from all areas of the sciences and engineering use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.

See the list of recipients from the October 15, 2014, grant cycle.

Application forms for the March 15, 2015, deadline will be available online starting January 15, 2015.
