Sigma Xi Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting Scheduled for May 2

Melissa Kenney1The Sigma Xi George Mason University and District of Columbia chapters are sponsoring the 2015 Sigma Xi Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting. It will be held May 2 in the Student Union Building, The Hub Rooms 1-5, at the GMU campus in Fairfax, Virginia.

The day is centered around a student poster symposium. Sigma Xi members are needed to judge posters. There will also be keynote and panel discussions on Global Change and policy.  

The event is free to attend for students and Sigma Xi members. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Prizes will be awarded for student posters at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Dr. Art Poland of GMU is accepting registrations from both students presenting posters and members. Guests are invited to attend as well. 

The keynote address will be presented by Dr. Melissa Kenney of University of Maryland. It is titled "Interdisciplinary Research to Support Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Decisions."

The keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion on global and climate change with Dr. Jim Kinter, Dr. Tim Delsole, and Dr. Melissa Kenney, moderated by Dr. Paul Schopf. 

"This is a wonderful opportunity to network with students and each other," said Cristina Gouin-Paul, the Mid-Atlantic Sigma Xi Director. "The Mid-Atlantic area has several thousand Sigma Xi members. You do not need to be a member of a chapter in the area to attend. At-Large members are also welcome. Bring a fellow scientist!"
