Know the Virus, Defeat the Virus

April 29, 2020

Together we give

Give people evidence-based information about COVID-19 by supporting a platform for scientists and artists.

#KnowItDefeatIt

The fast spread of a new, deadly coronavirus has brought upheaval to our lives. Millions of people have become sick. More than 200,000 people worldwide have died. People are searching for reliable information about how to keep their loved ones safe as we enter the next phase of the pandemic.

This Giving Tuesday Now – May 5, 2020 – a new global day of giving and unity, Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society and Science Talk have partnered to raise $10,000 to provide the evidence-based information that people need to stay safe, restore their sense of control, and slow the spread as we prepare for the next wave of challenges. When we know the virus, we can defeat the virus.

Your gift will support a new virtual collaboration platform, #SciCommMake, that enjoins teams of scientists and artists/creators to compete for funding to develop innovative approaches to disseminating evidence-based messages about COVID-19. The projects will be primarily designed to reach non-traditional scientific audiences, counteract misinformation, and help defeat this virus.

You can help by contributing to our awards fund so that scientist-creator teams can receive $1,000 each to complete 10 COVID-19 science communication projects that will reach thousands of people worldwide.

#SciCommMake will convene virtually in late-May where teams will pitch their projects and a panel of scientific and communications experts will determine which teams receive funding. Donations received over the $10,000 goal will fund additional teams of scientists and creators.
