RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society opened its new international headquarters on August 25, 2022 in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The Society’s staff, along with the staff of its award-winning magazine American Scientist, has relocated to 700 Park Offices Drive, Suite 160—directly across the street from its previous location in Research Triangle Park (RTP). The new office is located on the Frontier RTP campus—a thriving indoor-outdoor community that is home to emerging companies, STEM professionals, event spaces, and the innovative Boxyard RTP.

The new headquarters reflects Sigma Xi's shift to an agile, hybrid work model in the wake of the pandemic. The streamlined space eliminates excess offices, seldom used by remote-first staff members, while promoting collaboration through unique co-working stations and modernized meeting rooms. Additionally, the new location provides the organization with more financial flexibility and the ability to more efficiently focus its resources on its members, as well as the at-large research community. Excess books, journals, and magazines from the move were donated to the Durham Rescue Mission along with various local schools and community organizations.

Since its inception in 1960, RTP has been one of North America's largest and most successful research parks. Strategically located in the "Triangle" region defined by Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, RTP draws upon the academic resources of its three flourishing university partners—Duke University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. RTP is home to more than 300 high-tech research and development companies that employ 55,000 workers and an additional 10,000 contractors.

Formed in 1886, Sigma Xi has been headquartered in RTP for 32 years. Members are nominated and elected to the Society at all stages of their careers to recognize their excellence and achievements in the research enterprise. The Society promotes ethical research, companionship among researchers, and the public understanding of science. Sigma Xi chapters can be found at colleges and universities, government laboratories, and industry research centers around the world. More than 200 Nobel Prize winners have been Sigma Xi members. Every year, the Society holds an annual business meeting in conjunction with the International Forum on Research Excellence (IFoRE)
