2026 Linda H. Mantel Next Generation Women’s Leadership Award
Dr. Marissa Wechsler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio). She received her B.S. from UT San Antonio and M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, all in biomedical engineering. Prior to joining UT San Antonio as a faculty member, she completed postdoctoral research training at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her research focuses on the use of engineered polymeric systems for biomarker detection, drug delivery, and the design of complex biological microenvironments with applications in nanotechnology, biosensing, and tissue engineering. Dr. Wechsler’s research has been funded by the San Antonio Medical Foundation, the Trauma Research and Combat Casualty Care Collaborative, and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Wechsler is an active member in the Biomedical Engineering Society, Society For Biomaterials, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Sigma Xi, and the Society of Women Engineers.
