Statement
As I have shared joyously, and previously, learning that I had been nominated for membership into Sigma Xi was and still remains one of the most jubilant moments of my twenty-five-plus year professional career. Sharing this amazing news with my husband that evening and erupting into an emotion of exhilaration, similar to the emotion that I experienced when I successfully defended my dissertation, remains.
Over the past years as an active member since my 2020 Sigma Xi induction, that exhilaration has increased as I have served our Society in many capacities, most importantly, both thankfully and devotedly, representing you as your appointed and afterwards, twice-elected Associate Director. Additionally, my service has included the following: 1) member of the 2021, 2022, 2023 International (IFoRE) Planning Committees; 2) judge of our IFoRE Student Research Summit (2022-present); 3) appointed member of the Standing Rules Committee during the Sigma Xi President’s Assembly of Delegates (2023 & 2024); 4) delegate of the Sigma Xi Louisiana State University and A &M College Chapter; 5) presenter of the 2023 IFoRE Walston Chubb Award (Dr. Xin Zhang); 6) an appointed member of both the Committee on Finances (2023-present) and the Development Committee (2024-present); 7) IFoRE Presenter of the presentations entitled, 2022-“Equity & Inclusivity in the STEM Environment: What Does It Mean and How Do We Achieve It?” and 2024-“Policies and Practices: Outcomes and effects of Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging in STEMM and What can we still do?”
My core values remain the same and therefore, I remain committed to expanding educational and professional access and opportunities for all populations, including women and historically-excluded, underrepresented populations in STEM and STEAM. Likewise, my core values remain in alignment with our Culture, Mission, and Vision Statements, along with a robust commitment to our global membership, and specifically, to our Research and Doctoral Consistency Group.
Currently, as your Associate Director, I request the opportunity to serve you as your Director, to hear directly from you, and thereby be your active representative and voice on the Sigma Xi Board of Directors, during important business discussions such as strategic planning and membership development, as we seek to broaden our presence and opportunities. Likewise, I seek to expand your engagement with me, and each other, as well as with our Society via enhanced constituency group communications, which include the use of quarterly virtual meetings & professional development webinars.
Accordingly, I am inspired to seek this amazing responsibility and opportunity to serve you in this capacity, to expand my contribution and commitment to our constituency group, to our overall global membership of Sigma Xi, and to expand the use of my robust professional experience and acquired experience from other organizational memberships, for this particular role. And if elected, and thereby entrusted and honored to serve as your Director, working together with you, other Directors, our Associate Director (AD), as well as other ADs and Chapters, I will serve with veracity, full commitment, accessibility, and transparency, as we build stronger relationships, to inspire the creation of new initiatives that will build Sigma Xi Chapters that serve you more effectively and efficiently. Therefore, I ask modestly for your consideration and for your vote.
Thank you!!!
