Biography
Meghan Barrett is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at Indiana University Indianapolis where her lab researches insect neuroscience and welfare. She earned her PhD in Biology and MS in Education from Drexel University in 2022.
Dr. Barrett's interdisciplinary scholarship has focused on the ethical use of insects in research and farming, with a particular focus on developing the knowledge base and resources needed to promote a more transparent, rigorous, and ethical entomological discipline.
She is the Founding Director of the Insect Welfare Research Society, co-founded the column Ethos in the American Entomologist (dedicated to discussing ethical challenges in entomological research and pedagogy), serves on the open science working group for the Royal Entomological Society's publications committee, and chairs the Animal Welfare Committee for the NSF Center for Environmental Sustainability through Insect Farming. .
