Plant pathologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture by day and Sigma Xi super volunteer by day and night—Cristina Gouin-Paul does a lot for the Society. To recognize her outstanding volunteer service to Sigma Xi and its mission, the Society is honoring her with the 2016 Evan Ferguson Award.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society has supported the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge since its beginning 10 years ago. The Challenge is an eight-month contest that asks high school students to design products or services that would benefit humanity.

Tee Guidotti becomes the president of Sigma Xi on July 1, 2016. In his first president's letter, he answers the questions, "What are the most important scientific issues facing the world and the most important issues facing the scientific community." He also explains how Sigma Xi can make progress on these issues.

Registration for Sigma Xi’s 2016 Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference is open through August 1. This year’s events will be held November 10–13 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Can math help predict crime? Dr. Andrea Bertozzi of UCLA, a Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer, will be the guest for <em>American Scientist's</em> Google Hangout, "The Mathematics of Crime." Watch the live broadcast on June 14 at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Mark Peeples looks back on his year as Sigma Xi president and reflects on the value he sees now in the Society as well as the improvements he has seen in recent years. His presidency ends on June 30, 2016.

Four Sigma Xi members received the National Medal of Science and three members received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation during a White House ceremony on May 19.

Sigma Xi members selected teams at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to receive $6,000 in total from the Society's Special Awards in Team Science.

Sigma Xi has been invited to join the 2016 ScienceDebate.org coalition to develop the top science, technology, health, and environmental questions that the candidates for president of the United States should be discussing. Please submit your question to the 2016 Presidential Science Forum.

Five Sigma Xi members have been named 2016 Goldwater Scholars. They will receive undergraduate scholarships that will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year for one or two years.
